Our Mission

The Mission of the Old Forge Library is to provide materials, and services that enhance the quality of life in our community. We welcome and support all in the pursuit of lifelong learning and believe that the freedoms to read, learn, inspire, and discover provide enjoyment, enrich lives, and strengthen our community. We strive to provide equal access to information, ideas, and knowledge through books, programs, the arts, and other resources to year-round and seasonal residents and those who visit our community.

Our History

The library was established following a meeting in late-1913
in what is now a t-shirt shop in the center of town. New York
State granted a provisional charter and the Old Forge Library
opened in February, 1914.

In 1976, local businessman A. Richard Cohen deeded his
parents’ homestead to the town’s historical group and
to the library. In 1977, the library moved to its current
location on Crosby Boulevard.
